The Sufferings of Christ

I always experience an overwhelming sense of deep appreciation when considering Jesus' great love and the tremendous sacrifice He made for us, which, whenever I read or listen to this amazing grace chapter on the Sufferings of Christ by Mrs. Ellen G. White, brings me to a place, where, as one hymn writer puts it: "I scarce can take it in."  I am awestruck by such an awesome God, who, in Christ Jesus, reconciled the world unto himself [2 Cor 5:19].  The Saviour suffered so much when He gave His life and shed His precious blood on the cruel cross of Calvary to save a reprobate world from the terrible results of sin and disobedience.  It was a huge price: His Life - for all of us sinners here on Planet Earth - The Creator became Redeemer.  For while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us [Rom 5:8].  As you read through this inspiring Chapter posted below, may you too experience the joy of salvation in Christ Jesus and be blessed with His presence in your life. In addition, I have also added in this post the words of a beautiful hymn by Isaac Watts which ends with the words - Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all...

Thank You Jesus!

When I survey the wondrous cross
on which the Prince of Glory died;
my richest gain I count but loss,
and pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
save in the death of Christ, my God;
all the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to his blood.

See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
or thorns compose so rich a crown.

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
that were an offering far too small;
love so amazing, so divine,
demands my soul, my life, my all.

Isaac Watts, 1674-1748

In order to fully realize the value of salvation, it is necessary to understand what it cost. In consequence of limited ideas of the sufferings of Christ, many place a low estimate upon the great work of the atonement. The glorious plan of man’s salvation was brought about through the infinite love of God the Father. In this divine plan is seen the most marvelous manifestation of the love of God to the fallen race. Such love as is manifested in the gift of God’s beloved Son amazed the holy angels. “God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This Saviour was the brightness of His Father’s glory and the express image of His person. He possessed divine majesty, perfection, and excellence. He was equal with God. “It pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell.” “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” {2T 200.1}
